Cold Light
Belgrade & Novi Sad, Serbia — 2026
I arrived in Serbia on a family holiday that began in Istanbul, expecting little and finding a city wrapped in fog. Belgrade in the cold moves at a different pace: people walk with their collars up, dogs wear coats, and the flower market keeps its colour against a grey sky.
Coming from the tropics, I was drawn to how people live with the cold rather than against it. Warm moments stand out more sharply in winter light: a vendor arranging flowers, a fellow photographer bent over a large camera, the glow of a mosque against the night.
This is a short series, a brief encounter with a place I had never imagined visiting, and one I hope to return to.
